Don’t Trap Yourself in Overthinking!

How many tabs do you open when working on your laptop or any other gadget? I am sure there would be multiple tabs open because you think this way you would be able to work smartly and efficiently. But, does it actually happen or you dwindle between reading a few lines from one tab and then switching to the other? Certainly, the latter must have been your choice. So, when you do it on a device, your mind is actually not multitasking rather doing the ‘task switching’ which does not help in retaining good focus. Additionally, the performance of your laptop also gets affected and it slows down which itself indicates that it is not a good choice to open too many tabs at the same time.

Likewise, when you do the same with your mind, do you think you do any justice to yourself or your tasks? Of course, not! Well, when you indulge in overthinking, it means that you stress out and simultaneously think about a large variety of stuff. What efficacy do you see here when a person keeps vacillating between one thought and the other or stays stuck in one issue for long? Indeed, it is unfair and unwise to let your thoughts control you this way. What do you lose when you have way too many tabs open in your mind and how can you fix it? Read on to understand better:

The demerits of overthinking

Like I said earlier, overthinking is unsafe and detrimental for your physical and mental health. Let me explain how:

  • You lose your focus and waste your time on the less important stuff. This leads to poor workplace efficacy, compromised relationships, feeling of worthlessness and whatnot!
  • Your anxiety level surges and you feel like giving up because too many tasks pile up for you. The reality is that if you take it slow and stop overthinking, you will be able to make it on time for all tasks.
  • You feel like a failure because you give in to the pessimistic thoughts for hours. Remember, this is a self-sabotaging attitude and leads to more frustration and failures.

How to fix it like a pro?

Now, what can you do to stop overthinking and focus better? Here are some ways:

  • Declutter your mind. This means that you need to arrange your thoughts by prioritizing the important task and only restricting yourself to them.
  • Make a to-do list or journal. This will help you stay focused on the necessary tasks and avoid random anxiety howls.
  • Stop hanging out with negative minded people. This will save you from overthinking or feeding yourself on pessimistic thoughts. Remember, unhappy and toxic thoughts take the most space in your brain and open way too many tabs.
  • Talk about it to your trusted fellow, parent or a support app like Reyo. A sensible or experienced person will help you get rid of useless thoughts and only restrict yourself to the urgent and important ones.
THE BOTTOMLINE:

So, you see, it is no wonder if you stay worried and dysfunctional because of overthinking. Although may be normal to overthink sometimes, becoming one for long is self-destructive attitude. If you are suffering from it, try using the ways I have shared to fix it and have a productive life and meaningful relationships ahead.

 Good Luck!
